A husband who repeatedly teased in a video for his 49-year-old wife Suzanne Morphew’s secure return days after she went missing Mother’s Day 2020 is charged with first-degree murder in her passing. Barry Morphew, 53, faces charges of murder, evidence , and attempting to influence a public servant just below a year after Suzanne disappeared. He was detained on Wednesday.
Investigators using the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office said they learned about the situation on May 10, 2020 after a neighbor reported Suzanne Morphew missing. Morphew, a mother of two from Salida, went out for a bicycle ride, but didn’t return. An investigation ensued and it was soon reported that police found Morphew’s bike.
On May 17, 2020,” Barry Morphew actually appeared in a movie begging for Suzanne’s safe return.
“Oh Suzanne, if anyone is out there that could hear this, that has you, please, we will do anything is needed to bring you back. We adore you. The girls want you. No questions asked. However much they need, I’ll do anything is required to get you back. Honey, I love you. I want you so bad,” he said.
In light of those murder charges which were just handed down, this could remind a few of how Colorado man and convicted murderer Chris Watts responded after his pregnant wife Shanann Watts along with his two brothers Bella, 4, along with Celeste, 3, were reported missing.
“Shanann, Bella, Celeste… if you’re out there, simply come back,” Watts stated on the neighborhood news.
Bob Morphew, Barry Morphew’s uncle who resides in Indiana, told Fox 21 News from May 2020 which Suzanne was”one of the sweetest people you’d ever wish to meet.” The employee resisted the idea that his nephew could have played a role in her disappearance.
“I think they can bury that kind of thought,” he said.
“They’re a loving couple and I have never seen any sort of unhappiness with each other or made by both of them,” Bob Morphew added. “Everything you saw on that video from Barry the other day that’s just Barry and that’s exactly how he feels. He loves her and he wants her back, he wasn’t putting on. I think anybody that ever knew them at any moment in their wedded life would tell you that they had been as loving of a few as you’d find anywhere.”
Back in Sept. 2020, allegations of foul play against Barry Morphew started to intensify.
Jeffrey Puckett, a man who was hired to do work for Morphew, advised Fox 21 News that a Holiday Inn area in Broomfield which Barry paid to stay in the weekend Suzanne disappeared reeked of”chlorine.”
“I have there Sunday night and the room smelled like chlorine real bad,” he said. “It was his room and he had taken a shower his towels all over the floor.”
Puckett said he also found mail addressed Barry Morphew in a trash can within the area.
“My first thought was,’alibi.’ When I found the mail the morning after, just kinda looked like an alibi,” Puckett said.
Barry Morphew denied that there was any foul play and said that Puckett had done jail time in the past.
“I did not do nothing wrong from the hotel. There is cameras around that location. Then he indicated the room might have smelled like chlorine since the hotel was taking extra cleaning precautions due to COVID-19.
“I smelled it also when I was in there,” he said.
Puckett remembered Morphew departing the hotel in a Rush,
